The increased incidents and eruption of conflict and civil wars in the former Sudan, the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region necessitated the creation of the Centre to promote peace by enhancing scientific inquiry into areas of conflict, peace and development. The Centre serves as a forum for interdisciplinary study, research, teaching and training and public dialogue on conflict, peace and development issues related to South Sudan, the Horn of Africa, the Great Lakes Region, the African continent and the world. To train graduates and professionals pursuing careers in government institutions, private sector, NGOs, and regional and international organizations and other prospective students interested in the fields of conflict, peace and development.
